もう絶版になっているらしく、国会図書館まで行ってきました。インフルに敏感に反応していて、職員のかたはみんなマスク着用で、随所に消毒液が置いてありました。でも私の隣に座ってた人がすごい咳をしてたので、多分イミなし。

さて映画ですが、自分の過去を娘に秘密にしてきた女性と、その家族の話。この女性というのが、なんというか絵に描いたようなワーキングクラスの人のよいおばちゃんなのです。

彼女は自分が抱えてきた秘密の重さに耐えられなくなって、最悪のタイミングでそれを吐露してしまいます。本能的というか、空気を読まないというか、けっこうイライラさせられるのですが、結局彼女の心の温かさとか、あけっぴろげな正直さが、「ま、いいか」と思わせるのです。まじめな人が馬鹿みたいじゃないか！という反論もありそうですが、それさえも彼女の（ややエゴイスティックな）愛は包んでしまいます。

おばちゃんパワーは強し、ですね。

最近家族ものの映画「レイチェルの結婚」を観たので、ついアメリカとイギリスの比較をしてしまいます。

イギリスの映画というのは、結構「お約束」が好きですよね。いろいろあって大変だったけど、みんないい人で、よい結末を迎える的な。ノッティングヒルの恋人なんかいい例です。

けっこうそういうベタさが私は好きですが、ひねくれたユーモアのセンスを持った彼らが、こと映画に関しては「正しい物語」を熱く支持するのが不思議でもあり、おもしろくもあります。

I have been recommended to watch this film titled "Secrets and Lies", which was impossible to locate. After a few bumps into porno films and  a similar titled book written by Chomsky, I finally managed to watch it in National Library, on LD (!).

 The film was more typically British than I was expecting. By "typical British", I mean "we all have issues and faults but we go over obstacles and learn to accept each other and things turn wonderfully good for everyone" type of movie. Such as "Noting Hill" , "Bend it like Beckham" , and "Full Monty". It is almost hard to believe the actors were asked to improvise on each scene for this film. (Apparently, that's Mr. Mile Lee's method) It seems like as if they are saying just what they were to say. The story goes into the so convenient for each character and the story itself to wrap up. I don't mean it in a bad way. I actually really like this kind of "everyone becomes happy in the end" type of film. 

It is just rather curious that it comes out of the mind of people who, I think, on the other hand have a really mean twisted sense of humor.
